Flyers Midnight
Madness Marathon and Relay
Entry fees: Marathon $35, Relay Team $49
To make a donation only choose the individual entrant category.
This event is being organised by the Weston Creek Athletics
Club to raise money to support Martin Fryer to attend the Unixsport 6 day race
in Hungary in May 2012. Martin is a club member and is aiming to become the
world #1 ranked male athlete over the 6 day race at the end of 2012.
If you can’t compete in the event you can still use the
online entry to make a donation. All entrants in the event and everyone who donates
$25 or more will have the opportunity to enter an estimate of the distance that
Martin will compete over the 6 days in Hungary. The person who’s estimate is
closest to the actual distance that Martin covers will win a trophy constructed
from objects that Martin uses in the event. We may also be able to provide
prizes for runners up.
The marathon event is only suitable for experienced runners
who have appropriate experience and training to complete the distance (42.2km)
on a challenging course at night time with minimal support. If you are unsure
whether you are suitably fit to attempt the marathon we encourage you to enter
as part of a relay team, alternatively you could contact Vince Craig on 0432
832 431 or vince.craig@anu.edu.au
to discuss your preparedness for the event.
The course is entirely contained within Stromlo Forest Park (http://stromloforestpark.com.au/)
and is off road in that the majority of the course is on fire trails and a
significant section of the course is on mountain bike single track trails (not
steep). We think this is a great and enjoyable course. The course consists of a
loop of ~6km. Relay runners must complete a full lap and can then change over.
For example a relay team of two could change over at the end of every 6km lap.
We will be enforcing a strict cut off
time. You must finish by midnight. We will be stopping runners
heading out on another lap well before midnight if we believe you will not be
able to finish before midnight.
The event will only provide minimum support (think fata$S style + a bit more). We think this is part of the attraction of the event.
To spell it out;
There may not be any marshalls out on the course
The course will be well marked but you need to be confident
in your ability to follow the course markings at night.
You should make sure you have appropriate clothing
considering that it could be very cold and may be wet.
You need to be confident in running over trails at night.
Refreshments will be provided at the start/finish area –
every 6km.
You MUST carry a torch or a headtorch and we advise that you
carry spare batteries. No torch no start!
Prior to the race all entrants will be notified of
arrangements should you become ill or injured out on the course.
