Ride with a Pro - A Project for The Meningitis Centre

Attention all recreational and serious recreational riders!  If you want to be part of this unique and special ride under controlled conditions read on!

Aspire 2 Wealth (A2W) financial advisors, their parent company Genesys and the Perth Integrated Cycling Group (PIHCG) have joined forces to bring you a very special treat to celebrate the commencement of the 2012 cycling calendar in Perth.

Dates To Remember

On the 10th Feb (Friday) and 11th Feb (Saturday) 2012, select members of the Genesys Professional Cycling Team will be in Perth to ride with 80 lucky cyclists who sign themselves up quickly!  This community project which aims to support the people in need at the Meningitis Centre is a worthy cause which cyclists should gather together to assist.

The Ride with a Pro Event is held on the 11th Feb 2012 itself on the Saturday morning and the evening before on the 10th Feb, we will be hosting an information evening featuring these professional riders and much coveted information that will be shared about secrets on the peloton, how to train and train effectively, to understand the focus and discipline needed in cycling as well as tips and techniques that can make the ride of a recreational and racing cyclist so much better and effective.

What you are signing up for

Your sign up for the Saturday event will also include a complimentary entry to the event on the 10th Feb and further details will be emailed to participants who sign up.  This ride will also include ALL cyclist requiring to wear the Genesys Pro jersey together with the professional riders (your chapter, club or personal jersey will not be permitted) and your registration fees include this jersey already.

As this event is created exclusively for 80 cyclists, you will understand and respect our need for privacy and exclusivity and the following details are currently available:

Further details

Date: 11th Feb 2012, Saturday.

Time:

600 am to 630 am: Reporting in and collection of jerseys (though we expect participants to attend the safety and information session the night before on the 10th).

600 am to 715 am: Breakfast at meet point location (at own expense and participants will be emailed Breakfast menu 1 week before the event to place their orders)

630 am to 645 am: Final Safety Briefing. Attendance compulsory. Riders who do not attend this briefing will not be permitted to ride in this event.

715 am to 730 am: Riders meet and greet the teams that they will be assigned to.  There will be 20 riders per team which includes a Genesys Professional Rider, PIHCG PIHCG cycling coach and PIHCG tail end Charlie.

730 am: Group leave for the ride. Teams will leave at 2 minute intervals each for ease of traffic management.

Meet Point: Mundaring township – actual meet point will be advised to those who sign up.

Distance: between 50-55  km through the Perth Hills incorporating some of the most scenic routes which includes parts of the Tour de Perth 2011 circuit (note that we have had to modify the distance to cater for the training needs of the Genesys Riders who will also be participating in the Perth Criterium that weekend but be aware that we have charted a very technical course for your riding pleasure).

Terrain: undulating to hilly, suitable primarily for A and B distance riders.

Permissible categories

Categories: Participants will be invited to nominate for three categories and you need to be specific and honest about your actual abilities:

Category 1: Speed between 25 to 29 km/h average over 40 km flat to gradual undulating distance

Category 2: Speed between 30 to 34 km/h average over 40 km flat to gradual undulating distance

Category 3: Speed between 35 km/h to 39 km/h average over 40 km flat to gradual undulating distance

We cannot cater for riders averaging below 24 km/h for this ride as the Genesys Professional Riders have a tight time frame for this community event with other racing commitments on the same day.  We will not and also discourage any riders riding faster than 39 km/h as this event is a community event and NOT a race and the professional riders and cycling coaches will not permit this for safety as we will be riding along the main public roads with no traffic management.

Safety and Awareness

PIHCG as a cycling group is renowned for its safety and wellness focus in riding.  We will control and regulate the ride according to our Bunch Ride regulations which is acceptable and used also as a training tool by our training teams and sanctioned by BWA.

 We have since included a Pace Vehicle which will be driven by a PIHCG Coach with recognised road traffic qualifications. Certain sections of the ride will be regulated by the pace vehicle to ensure safety and hazards pertaining to public transport and traffic.

We reserve the right to review and enquire riders who are successful in their application of this event as we want to promote this event to riders with the following qualities:

a.       Ability to ride cohesively in a group and to follow instructions;

b.      Appreciation that others may ride differently to them and flexible to accommodate these differences in the spirit of the group ride;

c.       That this event is NOT a race and therefore any form of racing conditions and plans will not be entertained;

d.      That you will ride with front and rear lights on throughout the ride as this will be a pre-requisite of the event for the safety of the group as well as the general public;

e.      That you will adhere to the WA road rules regulations and understand and appreciate that we are riding in real road conditions without any marshals or traffic management controls.

f.        That you will not overtake the Genesys professional rider and /or the PIHCG cycling coach;

g.       That you will respect our ‘no riders is ever left behind policy’ and this will be enforced by the PIHCG Tail End Charlie.

Riders who we deem to be unsuitable or unable to meet this safety and wellness criteria will be invited out of the event for the safety of others and that of the organisers, so please do think hard and remember the reasons why you are doing this ride – that is to ride and learn from the professionals and also to assist with a charitable cause.

The Ride

The ride will be undulating and hilly and we have created two stops along the way to ensure that each of the four teams remain together as well as for the following opportunities:

a.       Photo opportunity with the Genesys Professional rider and the team;

b.      Hydration stops (you are required to bring your own food);

c.       Educational stops where the Professional Rider will give you insights about the methods and styles of Group Riding and Training.

Each of these stops will be for a duration of 10 minutes.
