However, on-the-day entries are accepted at the start (Charles Sturt University, at the corner of Kings Ave and Blackall St, Barton) at least 30 minutes before the starting time of the desired participation distance. The Canberra Walking Festival is a non-competitive event open to everyone.

A range of distances is offered each day.

The event aims to:

a) foster and promote walking as a worthwhile, fun activity;
b) enable people to participate in an enjoyable, healthy, outdoor activity regardless of fitness, age, gender or background;
c) provide a personal challenge to those who wish to test their fitness, and/or obtain an award.

The Canberra Walking Festival is a not-for-profit event. A portion of all entry fees is donated to community organisations, including the Heart Foundation.

Walk Options - 4 events over 3 days - 11 different walk options

Friday - Welcome Walk - 3-3.30pm start - enjoy a 5km guided walk exploring the Parliamentary Triangle followed by light refreshments at 5pm.

Saturday - Walking Marathon - 7.30am start - 42.2km - finish by 4pm - the marathon route combines with the 32km Loop the Lake course after the first 10km.

Saturday - Loop the Lake - walking counter-clockwise around the lake.

8am start for 32km,
9am start for 24km,
10am start for 10 and 14km, and
10.15am start for 6km.

Sunday - Sunday Circuit - your walk will take you past more of our national landmarks and attractions.

8am start for 31km,
9am start for 20km,
10am start for 10km, and
10.15am start for 5km.

The 5-6km distance is a guided walk designed for the over 75s and under 8s, plus their walking companions. Other walkers should choose one of the longer distances.
