The Coogee Island Challenge is back for the autumn swim on Sunday 10th April 2022 after a massive event last December. Please read through this important information about how the event will be run on the day.
Pre-Race Preparation
Whilst the event is being held in autumn, we recommend you bring warm clothes with you for when waiting at the start and at the end of your swim.
Remember to hydrate well the day before the race, eat a good meal the night before and a good breakfast beforehand. Remember Coogee’s parking is limited and requires pay by the hour meters, so if you can come by public transport, please refer to the NSW Public Transport line.
Event Day Registration & Sign In
Depending on the Public Health Order at the time of the event, it will likely be mandatory to sign in using our Services NSW QR code located at the registration tables on the day of the event before you receive your registration pack.
Swim Times & Arrival to Beach
Start Time Event ARRIVE BETWEEN
08:30am 800m Junior Dash. 7:45-8:15am
09:15am 1km Splash n Dash 8:30-9:00am
10:00am 2.4k Coogee Island Challenge 9:15-9:45am
We request that you make every effort to arrive at the beach between the times posted above as we may still have a requirement to minimise as many numbers on the beach at one time as possible. We recommend you follow the CIC Facebook page to receive further event updates.
On arrival at the beach make your way directly to the registration tables on the sand in front of the Coogee promenade, going directly to your age group. This is where you will sign-in with Service NSW and collect your swim cap and timing chip.
Marshalls will direct you to the start line (north end of the beach) accessed from the top promenade and down the small set of stairs to the sand. This is where you will wait in the Competitors Only area to start the race.
The race start will likely be run as in groups of 3 swimmers every 3-5 seconds as we did in December 2021 however, this may change back to age group starts. This is yet to be determined and subject to the Public Health Order at the time of the event.

Prizes are awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed swimmers along with teams for each of the 3 swim events.
Winners Presentations
Prize presentations will take place at the Coogee Surf Life Saving Club at the southern end of the beach and commencing from 12 midday.
