Fencing North and Fencing New Zealand invite you to attend the National Junior Championships 2021 to be held at Te Pai Netball Centre in Auckland on the 11th and 12th of September 2021

This is for team managers only.

You need to fill out a registration for each team you whish to nominate.

Teams will be invoced to the team manager after the event or can be paid here online.

Eligibility:

To fence in the Junior (U20) competition fencers must be under 20 years of age on 1 January 21. Fencers must be at least 13 years of age on the day of the event.

If you are not sure whether the competition is appropriate for you or your child please check with your coach.

Participants must be affiliated members of Fencing New Zealand who have paid their membership fee for the 2021 fencing year or if you are an international fencer of your country.

Affiliations of all competitors will be checked at time of entry

National Teams Event:

Teams and team manager must be nominated prior to close of entries. Names of team members must be finalised prior to commencement of the associated individual event's semi-final presentations.

In the event that 4 slots are not filled initially, then any slots which are available will be distributed the highest ranked B teams.

Teams not finalised at this time will be withdrawn.

For fencers to be eligible for a regional team they must…

  • Fence for the Region they have affiliated with. In the event they have recently moved and wish for the affiliated region to be updated they must contact Fencing NZ Secretary in writing and request this is done before the team is submitted to the event organizers.
  • Ex NZ Fencers - Fencers will be accepted into the last Region that they were affiliated to and must apply to that Regional Committee.
  • International Fencers fencing in a Region and Affiliated to that Region - Fencer/s are eligible for Regional selection.
  • NZ Fencers that have never been in a region - Fencer/s must affiliate to a region and nominate as per Ex NZ Fencers in order to fence in a regional team

Competition Format

Junior Championships:

One round of poules (bouts to five hits) followed by direct elimination (bouts to 15 hits).

All weapons will be fenced as separate gender unless there are less than 6 fencers in that event. Where there are less than 6 in an individual event the weapon will run as a mixed event.

Teams: The team competition will be a four team competition and will be fenced as a direct elimination event with places fenced off from the round of four. 

Medals: Gold, Silver and two Bronze medals will be awarded in each individual event.

Teams Medals: Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams only.


Registrations:

Registration closes Thursday 02/SEP/2021 at 11.59pm. After that, entry is at the discretion of the DT.  

Entry Fees:  

Individual Event: $60.00 per weapon plus booking and card fee.

Late entries close on Thursday 09/SEP/2021 at 11.59pm and will attract an additional fee of $50.00 plus booking and cc fees.

Entries received after this date are at the discretion of the Head DT and Head Referee.

Team Event:  $90.00 per team per weapon. Payment can be made through registernow on the day.Entries need to be in by Thursday 02/SEP/2021.

No payments will be taken at the venue. 

No refunds are given.

Multiple Discipline Entry: If you are entered in multiple disciplines and the next discipline is scheduled to begin while you are still competing, you will be scratched from the then starting discipline and expected to continue competing in the ongoing discipline. No refunds will be provided.

Please check the timetable. This is a two day event and not all weapon combinations are possible.

Equipment Standards: 

Clothing: All clothing must be in a good state of repair. 

Minimum of 1150N protection for Torso. This can be made up either by 350N Jacket with an 800N plastron or 800N Jacket with a 350N plastron.  

350N Breeches

350N Mask. The 2018 FIE mask fastening requirements are compulsory at all FeNZ    competitions from 1st September 2021.  These are outline in rule m.25.7.f

The mask must contain two different safety systems at the rear of the mask, with the two ends of the straps of the systems firmly affixed to the two sides of the mask. All masks must fit well and be in good condition. The elastic strap shall be in good working order with elasticity and be able return to its original position after stretching, without deformation. The hook and loop securing the elastic shall be capable of retaining the elastic and resisting removal. Leon Paul X-Change Masks must have a secondary Strap/Bar. Visor Masks are strictly prohibited for all 3 weapons

Gloves- Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for Sabre.

Chest Protectors for Women are compulsory.

Weapon Specific: 

Foil: Lame Bibs (Curly mask wires are not permitted) and FIE blades required, Bayonet and 2 pin body wires accepted. FIE no. 3 size blades are acceptable. 

Epee:FIE blades required. Leon Paul SR-71 blades that are stamped 2013 to 2015 will not be accepted. Leon Paul V blade without a unique serial number will not be accepted.

Sabre: FIE blades S2000 or later blades required. Curly mask wires are not permitted.

Gloves- Must be in good condition and have no hole for body wires. 800N gloves are required for sabre.

Chest Protectors for Women are compulsory for all weapons.

 

Weapons Check:

Friday: 10/SEP/2021 open between 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Venue: Te Pai, 31-35 Te Pai Place, Lincoln Road, Waitakere 0654

Weapons Check will be open one hour before the registration time of each event.  Priority will be given to out-of-town fencers at this time

Control marks: It is the fencers responsibility to ensure that all equipment that goes through weapons control has control marks. It is the fencers responsibility to ensure control marks are still present every time they go to the piste.

Video Refereeing: Video Refereeing will be used for the final bout of all events. In all cases it will be used at the discretion of Head DT & Head Referee. 

Rule Change:  FIE rule t.124, Non-combativity will be implemented at this competition. 

FIE rule t.122, is suspended and will be required as follows. Fencers will instead be required to salute each other, in way of acknowledging their opponent.

Drug Free:  By participating in this event, you agree that you have been warned of the potential of being selected for anti-doping testing and you will comply with anti-doping testing if required. Results: Live results will be available on the Fencing Time Live website. 

Podium Protocol:

All fencers must wear either regional, club or FeNZ tracksuit jacket, breeches or tracksuit pants, fencing socks and shoes while on podium.

Food: There are various cafes in the area.

Competition Dinner:TBC

All fencers, parents, supporters, coaches and competition officials are encouraged to attend. Please indicate your attendance when you register as we need to reserve seating. Attendees order and pay on the night for their meals from the menu
