Side By Side (SXS) - Vehicle Regulations

      Driver conditions

  • Must pay appropriate park entry fee, signed in and covered by minimum SURL MA Licence
  • Helmet meets AS1698, SNELL M2010 and 2005, ECE22, JIS T 8133:2007 or DOT approval
  • Long sleeves, long pants, gloves, goggles/visor (no tearoffs), sturdy boots
  • All SXS participants must adhere to general rules such as no use of the bitumen road and following controlled access routes
  • Must “be able to comfortably reach all controls, contact points, hand holds with feet flat on the floor while firmly harnessed in the seat” (GCR’s 5.4.1)
  • Drivers under the age of 16 most not drive adult sized vehicles

    Passenger Conditions

  • Helmet meets AS1698, SNELL M2010 and 2005, ECE22, JIS T 8133:2007 or DOT approval
  • Long sleeves, long pants, gloves, goggles/visor (no tearoffs), sturdy boots
  • Signed in and covered by minimum SURL MA Licence and wearing wristband
  • Must “be able to comfortably reach all controls, contact points, hand holds with feet flat on the floor while firmly harnessed in the seat” (GCR’s 5.4.1)
  • Maximum number of passengers must not exceed manufacturer warnings
  • Must not at any point be sitting or have any body parts outside of the vehicle (e.g. no standing on running boards etc.)

    Vehicle conditions

  • SXS only, not CAMS superlite class nor ‘offroad buggy’ (Allowable vehicles include Yamaha YXZ, Wolverine, Viking. Polaris RZR, General , Ranger. Can-Am Maverick, Commander, Defender. CFmoto U & Z series or equivalent)
  • No junior vehicles (Polaris RZR170 etc) allowed to run with full size vehicles
  • Stock chassis and standard Roll Over Protection System (ROPS) allowed, no modifications required (although aftermarket roll cages encouraged)
  • Stock passenger restraint systems allowed in vehicles unmodified from factory; minimum requirement of Lap Sash seatbelts (4 point harness encouraged, door nets encouraged but not required)
  • Vehicles modified from factory (including engine, suspension or chassis) must have minimum 4 point harness. Door nets strongly encouraged
  • 1kg minimum fire extinguisher securely mounted to vehicle
  • Vehicle noise must be compliant with 112db ‘Two Metre Max’ ruling
    • If vehicle unable to freely rev in park/neutral, drive by noise test can be conducted instead
  • Quads/ATV’s are not considered a SXS and will not be allowed to ride with SXS vehicles
