The Coogee Island Challenge is back for the autumn swim on 11th April after a hiatus in 2020 due to COVID. Please read through this important information about how the event will be run on the day.
Pre-Race Preparation
As the temperature is forecasted to be cool but dry on Sunday, we recommend you bring warm clothes with you.
Remember to hydrate well the day before the race, eat a good meal the night before and a good breakfast beforehand. Please bring a drink bottle as we will not be providing any food or drink stations under our COVID plan unfortunately. Plus a warm change of clothes afterwards, and photo identification. Remember Coogee’s parking is limited and requires pay by the hour meters, so if you can come by public transport, please refer to the NSW Public Transport line.
Event Day Registration & Sign In
It will be mandatory to sign in using our Services NSW QR code at the registration tables on the day and before to then enable you to collect your chip and cap. The Service NSW QR code will be at each registration table.
Swim Times & Arrival to Beach
Start Time Event ARRIVE BETWEEN
8:30am 800m Junior Splash n Dash 7:45-8:15am
9:15am 1km 8:30-9:00am
10:00am 2.4k Coogee Island Challenge 9:15-9:45am
We request that you make every effort to arrive at the beach between the times posted above as we still have a requirement to minimise as many numbers on the beach as possible. Our swim and go policy will still remain as a residual effect of the COVID restrictions. Follow the CIC Facebook page to receive further event updates.
On arrival at the beach make your way directly to the registration tables on the sand in front of the Coogee promenade, going directly to your age group. This is where you will sign-in with Service NSW to then collect your swim cap and timing chip. Pre-purchased t-shirts are available for pick up at the Pre-Purchased tent on the sand. Limited quantities of t-shirts will be available on the day at our Merchandise tent located on the lower promenade. This year we have a long sleeve t-shirt version ready for winter (limited stocks only available).
Marshalls will direct you to the start line (north end of the beach) accessed from the top promenade and down the small set of stairs to the sand. This is where you will wait in the Competitors Only area to start the race.
The race will not be run as one wave per age group, rather it will be run in waves of 3 swimmers every 3-5 seconds in age groups. If the age groups are too large these may be split accordingly.
Winners Presentations
Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each age division will be awarded differently this year. Presentations will be on the beach at 10:30am for the 1km swim and at 11:30am for the 2.4km. Look for the Presentations tent on the beach. Again, we encourage if you are not a prize winner then please swim n go, so that we keep numbers down on the beach.
