Officials' Education Day Timetable

Presented by Bendigo’s own Commonwealth Games and World Athletics TOECS official, Josh Savage and Oceania Athletics Official , Peter Barrett

10:00-10:20:

  • Introduction;
  • The aims of the session;
  • Any questions about prior information (maybe send them the new rules PowerPoint or the like);
  • Any particular issues that people want us to cover (i.e. a specific event, position or rule interpretation) to ensure that we answer questions;
  • Overview of the day.

10:20-10:50 (The Track):

  • Do a lap of the track going through hurdle markings, break line, relay zones, wind gauge, running on the bend versus in the straight etc.;
  • Go through some start examples in the front straight to show straight starts and those from a curve. Working with photo finish, zero tests and the like;
  • Show how to place hurdles and steeples, with mind to height and weights;
  • Something on photo (unsure of how this would work. Leave it to you and Laurie to sort out);
  • What officials do and where they go.

10:50-12:30 (Field Events):

  • Start at long jump and triple jump working around the track through all the other event site;
  • Work on necessary equipment (including EDM), where equipment should go thinking about safety and fairness, conditions of implements, how to rake a pit and the like;
  • Emphasizing early site set up (particularly of hammer gates);
  • Where officials go and what they do;
  • Do some mock throws and jumps to show important points (i.e. fall of the javelin, arm in the shot, foot fouls in the horizontals, the plane in the verticals).
