This year is a bit different.

Covid update: Currently all we need to do is contact tracing, a requirement by Trusts. Please register as spectator/coach or official and select n/a in the question section.

The Fencing North Secondary School Teams will be fenced by school teams. All fencers must be at secondary school level or below (please contact your coach if this event is suitable for a younger fencer’s ability).

This Fencing North tournament is a mixed event.

It is part of the selection process for the National Teams. Please note the National School event is a regional event. Selection criteria differ.

Any questions about the selection process for the national tournaments, please email Katie secretary.north@gmail.com

The following is for the Fencing North Secondary Schools Foil Team event:

You must make up school teams first.

Only if you do not have enough fencers, you are allowed composite teams. Composite teams are allowed to win the competition and claim the title of regional winners.

Schools can submit as many teams as they like.

Given however that we have the limitation of 8 pistes (16 teams) we will select the A team of each school first. Spaces still available, will be filled by the B teams. Composite teams are considered B teams. In the unlikely event that we have more registration than spaces we will also consider who registered first. Should there be uneven numbers, historic data and the results from the individuals, where applicable, will be used to determine the byes.

Allocations are as follows:

The first 7 A teams registering will get an immediate confirmation of registration. This is separate email to the registernow confirmation, which only recognises that you have entered the selection process.

The next 7 spaces are allocated to B or composite teams. Same process: we will send a separate confirmation email. Should there still be places available, they will be filled with subsequent teams.

Should we have less than 16 teams all the teams entered will fence.

Short: enter early and you know early.

The named teams may consist of up 5 members or a minimum of 3. If you do have 5 members, please consider forming a composite team.

Contact us if you are looking for additional fencers.

(However National Secondary School teams are fenced in gender poules. You might want to consider this and select your teams accordingly.)

Ideally we would like to know who is in the team. We have to set up the event the day before and it is a lot easier if we have prepared the entry list. A lot of school fencers don’t have a Fencing Time record. You can imagine how much it slows us down if we have to name the fencers of each team on the day. We do allow changes up until check in.

A maximum of four (of these five) members must be selected to be in the team before the team's event starts. No changes to the named are permitted after check in. Realistically you will have 3 in each team. Those need to be named.

All five members are eligible for a medal and will be asked to join their team on the podium. Medals will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed teams only.

We will have chocolate prizes and certificates for this event for places 1-8.

The team competition will be have maximum of 16 teams and will be fenced as a direct elimination event with places fenced off from the round of four. Depending on entries we will consider a fence off or plate.

Closer to the event date we will publish a timetable. However teams are busy events. Please anticipate a full day of fencing.

This event was declared to be part selection process for the Nationals. (Epee and sabre teams are fenced after the cut off for the nomination for the Nationals.) Any questions about that please contact Katie on secretary.north@gmail.com

Any questions about the Fencing North Teams event please email us on Fencing North Tournaments

Due to this unprecedented times we decided to go ahead with the team competitions. We also decided this to be about the schools here at Fencing North and not a regional competition. The focus has been this year to get as many schools involved as possible. We also want to make this a fun, fair and friendly competition.

We’d like to apologise for any confusion and inconvenience. We are working hard behind the scenes to adapt.

Entry fees are $90 per team. Schools will be invoiced after the event.
