Hares & Hounds – 2021 

For 2021 we’ll be returning to the original Hares & Hounds format as opposed to the event simply existing in name only.

Also known historically as a ‘Paper Chase’ or ‘Chalk Chase’, the concept is simple:

  • The hare or hares start at a set time ahead of the hounds

  • In this case, the hares are the solo 50 km runners and the hounds are the relay teams

  • Hares start at 3:00 am with the hounds starting 90 minutes later at 4:30 am

  • While all solo runners who get to the finish before cut-off will be awarded a time, if a runner is caught by all the hounds before the last checkpoint, they will be listed as ‘caught’ as opposed to being a finisher (traditionally, they’d be removed from the course but we don’t want it getting too serious!)
