Folks,
It's with sadness and regret that I have to announce that we have taken the decision to cancel Maidenwell 2020.
We did this in consultation with both the Local Community and our long term runners.
We did not fear reaching the 500 people limit.
We did not fear that the existing 500 people limit would be lowered.
We feared that our city based runners might inadvertently bring COVID-19 into a small relatively isolated community.
Maybe if we had a 1 day event, we may not have cancelled, however this is a 3 day event, where 80% of the competitors are city based people who stay 3 to 4 days, and use the Cafe, Hotel and Community Hall and intermingle with everybody, and in the current situation, the risk was too high for us to carry.
Thank-you for your understanding, and for Easter 2021, just don’t bring one friend along, bring 5, as Maidenwell, like the rest of country Australia will need as many visitors as possible when we come out of the other side of this emergency.
And for 2021, we will race on Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday, 2nd and 3rd April,
