Swim Cairns will be holding a further open water training session at Lake Eacham on Sunday 23 June 2019. This increasingly popular sport is a complete all-round fitness activity that challenges the mind and body. Water safety and coaching will be provided by Swim Cairns coaches Gaby & Theresa Donnelly. Minimum age is 18 years.
We have changed the format of our two sessions. The new format provides swimmers with a 30 minute Skills & Drills session followed by a group training to practice the skills just learned.
Skills & Drills $20 per swimmer + booking fee
Group Training Swim $25 per swimmer + booking fee
Skills & Drills + Group training swim $40 per swimmer + booking fee
Skills & Drills session: A series of skills specific to open water swimming will be on offer including:
Sighting – learn the skill of swimming straight effectively and with minimal effort
Turning buoys – improve speed & avoid congestion around marker buoys
Starts & finishes – learn both land and in-water skills
Wetsuit swimming – we teach how to fit your wetsuit but also how to adapt your stroke
Drafting – learn how to conserve your energy
Pack swimming – the good, bad & ugly pointers
Managing anxiety – learn coping strategies
Swim planning – a must for every open water swim whether it’s for training or a race
Adapting your stroke – learn the difference between calm water and ocean water swimming
We limit the Skills & Drills sessions to only 10 swimmers so we can maintain a 1:5 Coach:Swimmer ratio for personalised teaching.
These session will teach you how to become a smarter open water swimming swimmer. We have a structured approach to teaching that will help build your confidence too. We build on techniques progressively as your confidence develops.
