Online registrations are now closed but you can register at the event from 6.00am tomorrow morning! Please come along to the registration tents at Williamstown Beach approximately 90 mins before your event. On the day registrations will close 30 mins before the event.

The WOW Challenge Open Water Championship will now be held on Saturday 9th of February 2019.

The WOW Challenge has not been cancelled, just postponed.

We have consulted with stakeholders and swimmers to find the best option for our rescheduled event and we really hope you can make it!

The wave times remain the same.

All VOWC swimmers can receive a free transfer to the corresponding WOW Challenge event. For swimmers entered in the VOWC 7.5km Championship only, please email us to tell us whether you want to swim in the WOW 10k or the 5k. 

** Please direct all other Victorian Open Water Championships inquiries to Swimming Victoria. **

The event is conducted by the Williamstown Swimming and Life Saving Club. Swimmers of all ages and abilities will have the opportunity to choose from a range of swim distances.

The WOW Challenge provides the chance to swim with the best swimmers from around the world, is part of the Great Victorian Swim Series and raises funds for not-for-profit organisations.

All swimmers receive a free event t-shirt and everyone can swim in a wetsuit if they choose to. Also, use of a fluoro swimming vest is optional.

* For Multiclass swimmers, if you need a swim buddy or want to bring your own swim buddy to accompany you, please  email us  for more information.

For any swimmers experiencing any difficulties completing the registration process, please email us for assistance.

Children 11 years and under who would like to swim in the 1.2km, 2.5km or 5km WOW Challenges can apply for a Coach Endorsement form for registration access to these events. Please email us for this form.

  • WOW Challenge swimmers, you can collect your race packs
    • Friday 8th Feb between 5pm and 7pm from the Williamstown S&SLC.
    • Otherwise, please arrive at least 1 hour before your race to collect your pack. 


Swimming Victoria By-Laws apply. These By-Laws stipulate that refunds will not be provided unless an entry is rejected. Refunds are not provided for any other reason; including medical grounds.


The WOW Challenge has a total prize pool value of $2,500. Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters in each age group/swim distance.  The top 10 finishers in the 10km swim event will be awarded medals.
