Competition Rules

The Queensland Recreational Fishing Rules are to be complied with at all times.

Bag Limits

A maximum of 18 fish per individual may be weighed in and no more than 3 fish of any one species.

Only ‘Legal’ sized fish are eligible to be weighed in.

Undersized fish will not be accepted at the weigh-in station and must be returned to the water as soon as possible after capture with minimum damage.

Fishing and Weigh-in Times:

Fishing will commence 12 noon Friday 26th of October 2018 and will cease at 10am Sunday the 28th of October 2018.

The Weigh Station will open from 12.15pm Friday 26th of October 2018.

 No fish will be weighed in before 12.15pm Friday 26th of October 2018.

 

The Weigh Station will close at 10am Sunday the 28th of October 2018.

No fish will be weighed in after 10am Sunday the 28th of October 2018.

 

Prohibited Fishing Areas: All fishing must be confined to the areas within Lake Moondarra as determined by the organising committee. The following areas within Lake Moondarra are prohibited fishing areas.

1. The Clear Water Lagoon.

2. A distance of 25 metres from the Floating/Pontoon Pump Stations.

3. A distance of 100 metres from the Dam Wall and Spillway.

4. A distance of 300 metres from both Lake Moondarra Deepwell Pump Station and Lake Moondarra Pontoon Pump Station.

 

Due care must be taken: The Mount Isa Water Board and the MIFSG requests due care is taken out on the water. Be aware of hazards such as tree stumps and rocky bars. There may be limited space at boat ramps and you may require patience & consideration.

 

Night Fishing and Boating: Boat drivers on Lake Moondarra must comply with Transport Operations (Maritime Safety) Regulation 2004 with regard to boat operation.  Night fishing is allowed for Friday and Saturday and all safety gear and lighting equipment is required. Competitors are reminded that the General Safety Obligation applies and due diligence must be exercised if boating at night.

 

Special Rules For Barramundi:  The Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic is held in the Gulf Country Barramundi closed season. Normally, according to the regulations anglers fishing in stocked impoundments are permitted to be in possession of only one Barramundi. Fisheries QLD, a service of DAFF, issues a special fishing competition permit to allow competitors to have three Barramundi in possession. However, only one dead Barramundi per competitor is allowed to be weighed in with a species bag limit of no more than 3 fish. All others must be released unharmed.

 

Disputes Resolution: The Weigh Master, MIFSG President, Treasurer and Secretary will resolve disputes and their decision is FINAL.

Juniors: Juniors are persons under 15 years of age (have not had their 15th birthday prior to the first day of competition)

Camping: During the Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic the event organisers advise that overnight camping will be permitted within specific areas of the R48 Reserve for Nominated Competitors only. Camping will be supervised and event organisers will allocate camping sites. Camping is allowed between 6.00 am Friday 26th October and 10.00 am Monday 29h October. The specified areas are Black Rock Park and Kingfisher Point. In all other areas of the R48 Reserve camping is not permitted. Campers will comply with Camp Rules supplied with Nomination Form.

Mosquito, Tick and Duck Lice  Activity: Participants are advised that precautions against mosquito bite should be taken and these should include wearing insect repellent and baggy light coloured clothes. Mosquitoes usually bite at night from sunset to sunrise. Mosquito warnings relating to Murray Valley Encephalitis (MVE) are posted on signs around the Black Rock boat ramp areas. Competitors who are camping are requested to become familiar with information on these signs. Please refer to the official website for further details on tick and duck lice activity.

Blue Green Algae: Participants are advised to check and adhere to blue green algae warnings displayed on signs placed at the entrance to the dam.

Photography: Please be aware that people authorised by the organising committee and others will be taking photographs and/or videoing the event. Your image may be used in Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic and or Mount Isa Fish Stocking Group printed and electronic publications including Social Media for promotional and educational purposes, and may be made available to the media and other third parties, or published on the internet. If you have concerns about your image being used for these purposes, please contact the event coordinator.

Champion Angler Information: The intention of this division is to encourage anglers to fish for a number of specie and not just target big fish

  • Points are awarded for each specie caught
  •   Points are awarded for the number of fish caught of each specie
  •  Points are awarded for the weight of each fish (a large archer fish and a large barramundi will score about the same)

Community Team Information: A team will have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 competitors. Competitors must be registered competitors in the 2018 Clancy Corporation Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic

  • Entry into the team event is free
  • Teams must register at the nomination tent and will be allocated a team (competitor) number
  • When a team member weighs in a fish it will be entered against the team members’ number. If desired the same fish can be entered for the team using the team number. However only a total of 3 fish of each specie can be weighed in for the team (Total 18 fish)
  • Points will be awarded to each team’s captures using the Champion Angler scoring system
