INTRODUCTION:

We, at Perth Integrated Health (PIH), are the event organisers for the Secret Urban Runs (SUR) in 2017 to 2018, which were designed to draw people back to the many urban areas where we can encourage others to walk and/or run.  For 2019 we return to these (no longer secret!) locations for our Urban Run Series in 2019 for February at Perth at the Supreme Court, June at Bathers Beach in Fremantle, and July in Mosman Park by Rocky Bay.

Many participants of Run Club and Park Runs enjoy the amazing programs created for them each week and we wanted to do something unique to aid and assist in the development of walkers and runners with the assistance of Sports Medicine professionals.

There is A LOT of myth surrounding injuries caused by running and in the past decade we have broken those myths as our Walk / Run programs have allowed people with a range of neuromuscular and joint conditions return to their love of walking and running.  Our Walk / Run programs are very physiological based with biometric methods of monitoring and development in concert with the biomechanical focus as described.

The URBAN RUN series is therefore catering for all levels of walkers and runners from Park Run type participants, all the way to people doing 12 km distances.  We therefore have THREE distances that you can choose from namely: 5 or 6 km* walk or run, 8 km run or 12 km run. (*Mosman Park has a 6km walk/run option instead of 5km. City of Perth Run and City of Fremantle have 5km walk/run options).

However you choose to cover the distance, whether it be walk, run or a combination of both, join us next year for our Urban Runs!

SERIES INFORMATION:

Urban Run #1: City of Perth, Supreme Court, Sunday 10th February 2019

Urban Run #2: City of Fremantle, Bathers Beach and Round House, Sunday 9th June 2019

Urban Run #3: Mosman Park, Tom Perrott Reserve and Rocky Bay, Sunday 28th July 2019

Each event has three distances to choose from

  • 5km or 6km walk/run – please note Mosman Park has the 6km option, City of Perth and City of Fremantle have the 5km option
  • 8km run
  • 12km run

Participants have the option to sign up for one, two or all three runs in the series. The costs are outlined below and are based on the number of events you wish to register for, not the distance. For example, if you choose to register for one event at 6km, and a friend chooses the same event but wants to do 12km, you’ll both pay $35.

    Costs

  • One run from the series (any distance) = $35
  • Two runs from the series (any distances) = $65
  • All three runs from the series (any distances) = $90

Why not set yourself a goal? Sign up for two or three events and aim to better your times, or increase your distances as the series goes on? No matter what your target or goal is with walking and running, there are endless opportunities here for everyone!

The following times are subject to change and will be confirmed closer to the actual event.

Timing Chips and Results

Each event will be timed and while it is noted on the emailed results, who is 1st 2nd 3rd Male and Female for each category, it is more for the information and benefit of the participant – to allow previous times to be compared.

Some participants will be members of the Perth Integrated Health Blue Marines Sports Medicine Walk-Run program and will be wearing their own PIH HuTags (timing chips). Non-Blue Marine members will be issued with a timing chip bib and safety pins to attach to their tops (or a race belt if the participant wishes to bring their own).

If you wish to learn more about the Blue Marines program, please email biometrics@pihc.com.au for more information! We train Monday evenings and Thursday or Sunday mornings each week. All forms of runners and walkers are encouraged to give us a try!
