The inaugural Gloucester Mountain Man Triathlon was held in 1991. It
attracted 117 competitors, both male and female, from as far away as
Queensland and southern NSW.
The event was billed as “the triathlon with a difference” offering a
22 km mountain bike ride, 11 km kayak paddle down the picturesque and
challenging Barrington River and a 10 km run back into Gloucester.
Due to the different nature of the course and the unqualified success of
the event it immediately became a permanent fixture of the Australian
Triathlon Calendar.
