2018 TOUR OF JARRAHDALE – MEDIO & PICCOLO FONDO

Sunday 7th Jan 2018

Introduction

The 2018 Tour of Jarrahdale returns on the 7th Jan 2018 and in a sombre way – as a full circle to celebrate the life of Cyclist Gena Hart whom we specifically fund raised for in 2016.

Gena who was stricken with aggressive breast cancer lost her battle in September 2017 and we are commemorating our 2018 Tour in her memory.  In 2016 we helped the Hart Family raise funds for their children in their time when both Gena and he husband Saul were in clinical rehabilitation and for 2018 part proceeds of this event will be specifically to assist Saul in the education of his three children in memory of Gena

We are hoping that this will be a bi-partisan event with all cyclists coming out immediately after the excesses of Christmas and New Year to do it in Memory of Gena Hart…..

For 2018 we will offer this event as a 65 km Medio distance and a Piccolo of 40 km

Routes for the two distances appended here:

Medio 65 km: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26471146

Piccolo 40 km: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/26471112

The Tour of Jarrahdale is also our developmental ride event towards our signature event – the City of Armadale Grand Fondo which is on the Sunday the 20th May 2018.   It is the start of the cycling touring season also for Perth Integrated Health Cycling Group and also for other event organisers.

For 2018 this event will also commence and end at Jarrahdale at the Jarrahdale General Store which we will add patronage to – in support of the local community.

Vital Information

  1. Ride distance – approximately 65 km and 40 km for Medio and Piccolo respectively.
  2. Start and end point – Jarrahdale General Store – Jarrahdale Rd, Jarrahdale
  3. Target Destination – loop starting and ending in Jarrahdale
  4. Elevation – low to medium level difficulty with gradual climbs that helps build on endurance and fitness for the Medio and the Piccolo.
  5. Event – this is NOT a race and as such there are no timing chips as it is about a community event ride.

7. Participants will be provided with GPX / TCX files of the route for their GPS enabled bike computers

8. Turn by turn Directional sheets will be provided and it is compulsory that you bring this along

      9. General map of the route will be sent to all participants leading up to the event.

      10. There will be NO signs or directions nor will there be any traffic management as this is about cycling touring.

       11. All riders MUST adhere and follow all of the normal WA Road Rules.

Rider Requirements

Visible attire as you will be riding in open traffic.   PIHCG riders please wear your PIHCG cycling kit.  Visible colours excludes Black, Dark Blue, Dark Red and Brown.  This ride is about safety and we will enforce this Safety on the Road message.

  1. Front and rear lights on strobe.  Even though we can see other vehicles and pedestrians they may not see us and because we are on open roads our visual imprint is enlarged and risks diminished because of these lights.
  2. Two water bottles compulsory for this Ride – we will provide Torq Hydration powder during the journey and at the rest stops but it is up to riders to provide their own hydration powder at the start of the event.
  3. Repair kit and please check the condition of your tyres.
  4. Bike Useability.  It is a standard procedure that all bikes for this event must be road worthy and must have working brakes and gearing.  We reserve the right to inspect bikes at the start point and those who have bikes which will pose a danger to themselves or others in their group will be prevented from participating.
  5. Bikes.  Only road bikes and hybrids are permitted for this road event. No exceptions.
  6. Team Captain and Tail End Charlie.  All riders must ride within their seeded team with the Team Captain in the lead and no rider must fall behind their designated Tail End Charlie.  If they fall back because they are unable to keep the pace, they will be asked to then join another team with an equivalent pace.  This means that you have to choose your Team speed carefully and be realistic to avoid any issues for the others on your team on route.  The Event Director and his management team have the ride to place riders in appropriate teams should they determine an emerging issue on route.
  7. Helmets – only Australian standard issue helmets are permitted on PIHCG rides.  If you choose to wear a non-Australian standard helmet you will invalidate your ride insurance and in the event of an incident or accident you will not be covered and you might be also be liable for damages.  This is another safety standard which we are encouraging in the cycling community.
  8. Bring cash / money/ EFTOS to purchase your own drinks and food at the breakfast stop in Jarrahdale
  9. Mobile Phone. All riders must carry their mobile phone and the number of this phone must be the one recorded at the time of their registration.

Please note that we are unable to cater for riders for the Medio Fondo below 22 km/h due to time and traffic constraints. Riders for the Piccolo Fondo are expected to be able to ride at least 18 km/h over a 20 km distance.
