Understanding Echocardiography Workshop

This workshop provides an overview of the role of echocardiography in the diagnosis and follow-up management of a variety of cardiac conditions. Associate Professor Greg Scalia will:
- Review cardiac anatomy and physiology;
- Show how echocardiography is performed and the clinical reasoning behind choice of investigation (i.e. contrast vs 2D/3D echo, stress echo, gated heart pool scan); and
- Illustrate the clinical application of echocardiography with particular emphasis on heart failure;
- Demonstrate how to interpret reports including the common nomenclature and significance of measurements
Participants: Suitable for GPs, medical trainees, cardiac nurses, pharmacists and allied health staff, as well as technicians and medical students seeking a better understanding of echocardiography.
Presenter: Associate Professor Greg Scalia is the Director of Echocardiography at The Prince Charles Hospital. He completed his fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, USA and has been co-director of the Echo Australia program since 2002. Dr Scalia has published over one hundred papers, abstracts and book chapters.
