TOUR DE GRACETOWN 12TH ANNIVERSARY -SATURDAY 28th OCTOBER 2017

Welcome to the 2017 Tour de Gracetown where we are privileged to have the City of Belmont Rotary Club as our naming rights sponsor.  The City of Belmont Rotary Club are synonymous with charitable acts and community works as they make a difference in the life of our local communities and in this instance the Tour de Gracetown.  We are also indebted to Walter Bonnet from Acquest Financial Services for bringing all parties together in the spirit of community and charity which for the second year running benefits the Ladybird Foundation.

There is no other South West touring event like the Tour de Gracetown and now in its 12th year – it grows from strength to strength. Sadly we have had in 2017 to revise TDG to once a year simply because the number of conflicting events in March has made this schedule untenable.

We are therefore reliant on your ongoing support and that of new friends to keep the spirit of Tour de Gracetown alive with the event taking place this year on the  Saturday the 28th October 2017.

For 2017 the Event will once again start and end  at the Gracetown Hall in Gracetown where it all began some 12 years previously. For the first time this event will have over very own Timing system which will be used as safety timing chips as well as to provide riders with a definite time which they can compare over the years.

We can also be proud of the fact that we are probably one of the original Western Australian based ride events that donate our proceeds to local charities and for the second year running we have chosen the Ladybird Foundation as the beneficiary.  To make it uniquely Australian – the entire event management team as well as associated companies working towards the success of TDG are also Australian and we ensure that our event contributes to the local infrastructure and the economy.

We are definitely not a road race but instead a social community ride for charity – and we have since 2015 created realistic average speed groups so that riders who are signing up can self-seed themselves and also invite their friends to sign up appropriately.

We recently conducted a survey amongst our participants over the years and we have tailor made the October 2017 to suit your needs.

For example:

  1. The event will be timed with all participants using a Safety Chip system.
  2. The Caves Road sector will remain neutral per Road Traffic permits and for safety reasons with our signature Safety Vehicles travelling at the agreed speed of 25 km/h.
  3. The event will complete at Gracetown itself with no additional adjournments to any wineries.

The commencement times and average speed categories are appended in the sign up section.  We are also encouraging as many groups to attend and ride in YOUR colours whilst at the same time also supporting the charity by pre-purchasing our Event Merchandise  that you can then use in the course of the year to continually remind the cycling community about the Tour de Gracetown.

The first 40 riders who register and purchase the new look Jersey and Bib / Nix will receive a gift of a TDG Cap and Cycling socks – courtesy of our Merchandise Sponsor for 2017 – Body Torque.  Body Torque is the well-known Australian cycling apparel companies that clothes many club and racing teams around the country and have been synonymous with mall major events throughout Australia.

We are equally fortunate to have great synergy partners in this year’s event namely Polar Perth, Glen Parker Cycles, the Perth Integrated Health Cycling Group, Reids Meats, The Good Grocer and Perth Integrated Health sports medicine  They have together combined their expertise and experience to ensure that the 12th anniversary will be one of celebration yet with the sombre focus that our ride event is for a cause and that of women suffering from breast and gynaecological cancer.

We will be hosting Training Rides for TDG 2017  where we will train riders to accomplish the TDG 55 km which is for developing and progressive riders and TDG 110 km which is for established and endurance riders commencing from Aug 2017 onwards.  We will cater training for both but you will need to indicate your interest in the registration column.
