2017 Tour of York: Ride for RSPCA Western Australia Heart Health

Date: SATURDAY 15TH JULY AND SUNDAY 16TH JULY 2017

The 2017 Tour of York has changed significantly to be a TWO Day event where riders can choose between BOTH or ONE of TWO events this year and this is the FIFTH year that this Tour is in operations.

This is in-line with our desire to further promote tourism and local infrastructure in the regions through accommodation, meals and retail through the local stores. It is also our Perth Integrated Health focus on Heart Health and registered participants will receive relevant information about Heart Health as well as discounts and specials provided by Perth Integrated Health’s Sports Medicine Team and Polar Agency.

For the first time – the Tour of York will also be a timed event but only for the Aussie Century Ride (100 km ) as the Aussie Half Century Ride (50 km) will include a social stopover at the iconic Tavern at Greenhills where the publican awaits us!

Finishers medals will also be given out for each of the three Ride distances (100km, 50km and the combined 100km+50km).

Get a group of your friends together and spend the weekend at York and savour what the local region has to offer – and don’t forget to attempt the assent up Mt Brown which will be site of the York Festival Mt Brown Run – Cycle event in Sept 2017!

Charity Donations

This year we are raising funds for the RSPCA Western Australia. Each day, the RSPCA receives 40 to 50 calls on their 24 hour hotline reporting animal cruelty, neglect or abuse. You may not have to face the horrors their Inspectors do, or make the tough decisions they must, but you can help keep RSPCA Inspectors on the road by making a donation to this worthy cause as our animals need a voice – and it will come with your support

Additional Information for Participants

  1. Specific route details, GPX files and cue sheets will be provided as a lead up to the event.
  2. All participants doing this ride please note that they are riding on roads where there is constant traffic and there are sections where there is heavy vehicular and road train traffic.   On all major roads where there is little or no shoulder, ALL riders MUST ride single file.
  3. Participants will be asked to ride with as best their group of friends and we will not allow more than 10 riders per Group for road safety and risk management reasons.
  4. PIHCG will place a Pace Rider up front next to the Pace car and NO participant will be allowed to outride and outpace the front Pace Rider.
  5. On the same, PIHCG will place a Tail End Charlie at the end of the Group and no rider will be permitted to lag behind.  Should the Tail End Charlie and Ride Director deem that the rider is struggling, they will be required to get on board the Sag Wagon.
  6. We will have a cut off time for arrival back into York for both days and this is to ensure that we keep to our time line as planned.
  7. A designated stop and start point in York will also be provided and participants encouraged to patronise the various establishments as part of our support of the regions campaign.  We encourage riders to consume freshly made food as part of the experience of cycling touring and to minimise the dependency on processed based foods.
  8. Participants are reminded to bring their own cash and EFTPOS / credit cards for their own purchases.
  9. Registered participants will be provided with links for them to arrange accommodation and their meals with their friends or teams should they be staying overnight.
  10. PIHCG will provide as usual the required safety and support crews for this event.
  11. A special Saturday Night Get Together is being planned and will depend on numbers registered.
