About Lifeflight
LifeFlight is a not for profit organisation providing a critical care medical rescue helicopter service to the residents and visitors of Queensland . The service operates from 5 community bases, including Maroochydore, Toowoomba, Brisbane, Mt Isa and Bundaberg 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Over 44,000 lives have been saved since it began in 1981. Last year over 1800 lives were saved. Every lifesaving mission, providing emergency critical patient care by our specialised medical teams, costs in excess of $12,500. The service is free to the community. To meet these operational costs, LifeFlight must raise funds through charitable donations and fundraising events, such as the Tour de Rescue. You can help keep our choppers flying by riding in our Tour de Rescue cycling event and raising the vital funds needed to continue our lifesaving service to the community of Queensland.
Robbie McEwen – LifeFlight Tour de Rescue Ambassador
Our ambassador Robbie McEwen will ride with our participants with a police escort departing from North Brisbane to Maroochydore on the Sunshine Coast on Sunday 13th August 2017 at 0630hrs. The 155km route is challenging but achievable by any novice cyclist. The course winds its way through the rolling hills lying within the northern outskirts of northern Brisbane and making its way past the Glasshouse mountains then onto the wonderfully scenic areas of the Blackall range, including Montville and Mapleton, before descending to our LifeFlight Base at Maroochydore, not far from the foreshore of the pristine coastal village of Mudjimba. Certainly a bucket list ride for any cyclist!
