Date: 23rd, 24th and 25th February, 2017
A non-refundable and non-transferrable nomination fee of $210 (plus $30 transponder hire if applicable) is payable with acceptance of entry conditions before nomination is accepted.
Entries will only be recognized once payment and acceptance of entry conditions has been received and accepted.
The nomination fee also includes;
- FREE practice
- FREE entry to the Title Calcutta for the competing driver.
Please Note – There will be NO Late Nominations accepted for this year’s title.
NOMINATIONS CLOSE OFF DATE: Friday 27th January, 2017
Nominations and payments will be accepted only through Register Now.
Once your Nomination is accepted it will appear on the AWSR web site on the Nomination List for the Australian Titles. Please take note, you cannot nominate on AWSR web site for this event.
Transponders
Mylaps Electronic Timing/Transponders will be used at this event.
If required, Transponders will be available for hire at an additional fee of $30 payable with nomination.
Prize Money and Tow Money
All monies will be paid directly into your nominated bank account as included on the Championship nomination form. Monies shall be paid into your account within 14 days after the results have been confirmed.
Conditions of Entry
- Only Australian Citizens/ Residents who hold a current SCCA Inc. / AWSR Inc. competitor licence and have competed with an affiliated AWSR State Member Club in a minimum of 3 events since the previous AWSR Australian Championship will be eligible to compete in the 2017 Australian Wingless Sprints Championship™. Both the car owner and the car driver (if different) must be a financial member of an AWSR Inc. affiliated Club and SCCA & AWSR fees must be fully paid.
- The 2017 Australian Wingless Sprint Championship™ will be conducted under the current rules and regulations of AWSR Inc. & SCCA Inc. and anybody or any vehicle that does not comply shall be excluded.
- It is the responsibility of both the owner and the driver to ensure the vehicle is legal and that penalties including suspension are applicable for breaches of engine rules.
- Any car which fails to pass pre or post-race scrutineering will forfeit all prize money, tow money and trophies for this event.
- All engines may be checked at any time before, during or after the meeting.
- All engines will be subject to the event regulations listed under ‘Engine checks’
NOTE: The AWSR reserves the right to vary any of the Supplementary Regulations and reject any nomination should the need arise.
Championship Format
Times will be allocated for teams. These will be notified 1 week prior to the event. Scrutineering will be done at the track. If a team does not present car at allocated time they will be penalized 10 points. If you don’t turn up for Scrutineering you will not be allowed to race. Cars will be checked on each day, with safety checks being a minimum.
The 2017 Australian Title Calcutta requires compulsory attendance by ALL competing drivers. The Calcutta carries 15 bonus points and are awarded on sign in of the event. The bonus points are calculated with the qualifying points.
If required all drivers must do wheel packing. Cars must complete as many laps as instructed. If a driver doesn’t obey the instructions of Carrick Speedway or AWSR/Wingless TAS officials, they will be penalized 10 points from the qualifying and /or heats points.
Race Format
Each car will contest a total of 4 heat races of 10 lap’s duration with a max of 12 cars per heat over the event. Drivers will receive 2 Heats on the preliminary night and a further 2 Heats on the final night of the Championship.
Each car will contest 2 heats on the Preliminary night. First heat by random draw and placed into respective heats. Second heat will be row and heat swap and invert. Each car will have an inside and outside row draw. Total points from the 2 rounds on the preliminary night, adding any bonus points, less deductions will make up the Preliminary A-Main.
The final night will consist of a further two heats per car. Fields will be inverted by 4 or 6 based from highest points from the qualifying night, and then row swap and inverted for the final heat.
Total points from the 4 rounds of heats and preliminary night features and any bonus points, less any point deductions will make up the qualifying positions for the Championship Mains.
Scoring of heats shall be 22, 19, 17, 15, 13, 11, 9, 7, 5, 4, 3, and 2.
No points will be awarded to drivers who are not classified as a finisher. Cars who receive the mechanical flag will be classified as a finisher.
- Qualifying Night Prelim A-Feature:
Top 18 cars will make up Prelim A-Main from the points accumulated from the 2 rounds of qualifying heats (including bonus points, less any deductions incurred). The event will be run over 20 laps.
No reserves required.
Points; 18,17.5,17,16.5,16,15.5,15,14.5,14,13.5,13,12.5,12,11.5,11,10.5,10,9.5
All other competitors to receive points as 0.5 of last finish position
Points to be readjusted for any other size field.
Tied points are split by using drivers’ quickest lap time from the heats that have been run up to the feature events.
Championship Features
Points accumulated from the 4 qualifying heats, bonus points and preliminary night, less any point deductions will be calculated to determine the qualifying positions for the Championship mains.
Championship A-Feature:
The top 16 on points are qualified for the A-Feature plus transferees from the B-Feature.
- The field will be limited to the wingless cars that qualify plus the defending AWSR National Championship holder if he/she doesn’t qualify with a minimum of 20 cars or track density.
- After the feature field is decided the next two place getters from the Championship B-Feature will be reserves if required in a complete re-start and before 1 full lap has been recorded.
- Race distance will be 35 Laps.
- After the AWSR National Championship A- Feature the top 5 cars will be impounded for weighing, engine checks and sealing of motors for post-race engine checks.
Championship B-Feature:
Those qualifying in positions 17 to 32 have qualified for the Championship B-Feature. The top 4 finishers will transfer to the Championship A-Feature, unless non-qualifying defending AWSR National Champion elects to take final qualifying position. The event will be contested over 20 laps.
Championship C-Feature:
Those qualifying in positions 33 to 48 have qualified for Championship C-Feature. The top 2 place getters will transfer to the Championship B-Feature. The event will be contested over 15 laps.
Rain Out / Non-running of Championship final
The rain out date scheduled for this event is Sunday February 26th, 2017.
In the event the Championship final is not run but ALL qualifying heats are completed the following will apply;
- Australian champion will be determined from total point score
- In the event there are tied/equal points the Australian champion will be determined from the fastest lap recorded in the qualifying heats
- 50% of the Championship prize pool only will be paid in the event the Championships mains are not completed.
***If ALL qualifying heats are not completed the Australian Championship will not be awarded nor prize monies paid
Engine Checks
The top 5 cars from the Championship A-Feature must make their car available for engine checks immediately following the completion of the event. The cars MUST immediately go to the designated impound area as advised by AWSR officials upon exiting the track at the completion of the Championship A-Feature. The only people allowed in impound area are AWSR Officials, driver of the car and 1 crew member to help pull down any part of the motor that is requested by AWSR officials. The top 5 place getters in the Championship A-Feature will have their motors sealed and/or removed from the car and sent to an AWSR approved inspector.
If your engine is sealed and referred to be checked at an AWSR appointed independent engine inspector, it must be presented to the independent inspector within 21 days of the event. The engine seals placed on the engine MUST not be removed. If the engine is presented with either tampered seals or if any of them are removed/missing the engine will be deemed illegal.
If the engine is deemed to be illegal the owner of the car will have to pay for the cost of pulling down the engine and the checking. If the engine is not found to be illegal the AWSR will cover that cost for having the engine dismantled and checked and the cost of an OEM gasket set or monies up to the value of $300 upon providing a purchase receipt if the car owner purchase their own gasket kit. The cost for reassembly will not be paid for by the AWSR. Car Owners will be responsible for reassembly and any associated costs incurred.
The AWSR also reserve the right to randomly seal any motor at any time during the title event and send to an independent engine builder appointed by the AWSR where a full pull down inspection will be carried out. The motor will be returned to the car owner within 14 days. If the motor is found to be legal the cost to return the motor will be covered by the AWSR. If the motor is deemed to be illegal any costs incurred by the AWSR and the cost to return the motor will be at the car owners expense.

Note: Qualification for tow money, is by the Residential Address of the car owner.
Total Tow Money budget is capped at $15,000 Inc. Rates quoted above will be revised as required to fit within budget.

PLEASE NOTE: Carrick Speedway is on the same grounds as a harness racing club. Horses will be in the area and speed limits MUST be obeyed. Horses have right of way with no exception. This is for both entering and exiting the facility at any time over the Championship.

Immediately following completion of the 2017 Australian Championship A-Main race the top 5 cars to be
weighed with drivers in car and then cars to be impounded for engine checks.
Provisional Trophy presentations will take place immediately after the place getters cars have been weighed. In the event of a dispute or failure to meet the engine specifications, the results and trophy presentation may be amended. Trophies will be retained by the AWSR after the presentations if a dispute is formally and correctly lodged.
