The Control Centre is located at: Charles Sturt University Corner of Kings Ave and Blackall St, Barton Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the starting time of your desired participation distance. The Canberra Walking Festival is a non-competitive event open to everyone. ACT Health has provided additional funding to support some of the new initiatives for our 25th event celebrations in 2016. We have also reduced our online entry costs for 2016 to help encourage greater participation (payment by Visa, Mastercard or PayPal). We hope you will join us.

Enter early to secure the lowest registration cost and also go into the draw for early bird prizes, including signed copies of the newly released "Walking & Cycling Canberra's Centenary Trail" RRP $29.99. One winner drawn at the end of each month (from all entries received to date) with the results announced on the AussieWalk Facebook page.

The event aims to:
  • promote walking as a worthwhile, fun activity;
  • encourage people to participate in an enjoyable, healthy, outdoor activity regardless of fitness, age, gender or background;
  • challenge those who wish to test their fitness, and/or obtain an award.
The Canberra Walking Festival is a not-for-profit event, run entirely by volunteers. A portion of all entry fees is donated to community organisations, including the Heart Foundation.

Walk Options - 6 events over 5 days - 14 different walk options - includes bonus pre and post festival walks to showcase the best of Canberra.

Pre-Festival Guided Walks
Thursday 31st March 1pm, Sculpture Walk, 11km - starts and finishes at the National Museum of Australia.
Friday 1st April 8:30am, Capital Walk, 11-13km - starts and finishes at the Control Centre for the Festival (returns in time for the Welcome Walk and official opening).

Canberra Walking Festival Walks
Friday 1st April 3pm, Welcome Walk, 5km - explore the Parliamentary Triangle in small groups followed by the official opening ceremony and reception.
Saturday 2nd April, Centenary Trail Walk, 5-42km - free bus provided to the start of your chosen walk distance along Canberra’s Centenary Trail (not for 5km guided walk). Note that the terrain on Saturday will be more challenging than on Sunday, so please choose your distances accordingly. Distance options are 5km, 11km, 20km, 28km and 42.2km (marathon).
Sunday 3rd April, Lake Loop Walk, 6-29km - walk around Canberra’s beautiful Lake Burley Griffin. Distance options are 6km, 10km, 15km, 21km and 29km.
On Saturday and Sunday the start times vary depending on your chosen distance - full details on the AussieWalk website.
The 5-6km distances on Saturday and Sunday are guided walks designed for the over 75s and under 8s, plus their walking companions. Other walkers should choose one of the longer distances.

Post-Festival Guided Walk
Monday 4th April 10:15am, Arboretum to Botanic Gardens Walk, 10-13km.
Details of optional public bus options will be provided for this walk (recommended) and other walks on our website.

Important notes:
Registering online will ensure that you receive the best possible entry price, and also ensure a seat on the bus to the start of your walk on Saturday (not applicable for 5km walkers). Family discounts also apply for 2 adults and 2 children (or 1 adult and 3 children). For families of 2 it is cheaper to enter as individuals.
Entry fees are non-refundable.
