Victorian Clinical Leadership Group on care of older people in hospital

and

Royal Australasian College of Surgeons

present

"Surgery and the frail older person"

Increasing numbers of older patients are undergoing a variety of surgical procedures. These patients may be at relatively higher risk of mortality and morbidity after surgery. Medical comorbidities and geriatric syndromes can impact on postoperative outcomes and increase length of stay. It is increasingly recognised that multidisciplinary care improves outcomes and experiences for older surgical patients.

Aim: To bring together clinicians from all areas of health care and provide an opportunity to share and develop knowledge and capability for best practice for older patients undergoing or being considered for surgery.
