Title: Looking, thinking and throwing…
Date: 6 July – 8 July 2015
Time: 9am - 5pm
Venue: Australian National University, School of Art Ceramic Workshop, 2 Childers St, Acton ACT 2601
Cost: $300 for Stepping Up delegates and $350 for general registrations + materials which can be purchased on the day
Level: Will need basic clay skills in hand building and/or wheel.
This masterclass will examine the use of the wheel as a tool to make modular components of both functional and non-functional vessel forms. It will cover many aspects of wheel-forming from handles for cups and mugs through to assemblages of large vases and figurative forms derived from a close examination of common objects and experiences.
Although participants will be expected to have basic throwing skills, the purpose behind the workshop will be to learn to see in different ways, and construct objects of a scale beyond what might be regarded as one's limits.
Class Outline:
Mornings: introductory illustrated talks about where ideas come from, followed by demonstration, discussion and making. Afternoons: making, with interspersed demonstrations relevant to participants interests and ideas. Each day will end with a review of progress and suggestions for the next day's work.
