Welcome to Essence of AcT1vate 2014!
You wouldn’t be here if you hadn’t already heard about Essence of AcT1vate! Well done, you’re about to register…..
This time it's Essence of AcT1vate because we've distilled the purest and strongest elements of our celebrated weekends and we're putting on a short version: one day of sharing, learning, empowering and getting active.
It is dedicated to helping you, your partner, your child or your patients with type 1 diabetes to get the most out of exercise.
The AcT1vate program is specifically for people with type 1 diabetes to learn, or enhance their knowledge, about how to integrate exercise safely into their lives. Varying levels of knowledge and experience are accommodated.
It is also time to share your own experiences and meet others with type 1 diabetes and those who support them. The environment is one of support and learning, but above all is very relaxed and enjoyable!
As usual, children between the age of 5 and 18 can attend Essence of AcT1vate 2014 but they must have a parent or guardian present at all times. There is a special discount rate for the 2 of you.
Highlights of the 2014 edition are:
- Fantastic news is that Monique Hanley, professional cyclist, state track champion, Cycling Victoria board member and co-founder and long-term president of HypoActive will be presenting for this AcT1vate. Monique has more experience than practically anyone with type 1 diabetes, exercise and athletic achievement. She is a goldmine of all the very best information and tips. She's also one of the most motivating and inspirational speakers you're ever likely to encounter.
- A choice of various activities to sample at the beginning and end of the day
- Several chances over the day to have your questions answered
- Coeliac and other “special” dietary friendly catering
- Delicious dinner, at your own expense, at a nearby hotel
- And this year, souvenir drink bottles
Special Note
We have been very fortunate to be able to schedule this special Essence of AcT1vate event the day before our Christmas break-up BBQ brunch!
That's right: the following morning (Sunday 30th November) at Kevin Bartlett Reserve in Richmond we will be firing up the grills for a feast of diabetic food (ordinary food).
It's HypoActive's great pleasure to be presenting this lavish and tasty fare free of charge to all type 1's (and their support crew) who would care to join us.This could be the perfect way to follow your amazing day at AcT1vate - just come along any time after 9.30 am (doesn't have to be SHARP!).
We'll be there until the last snag falls.
The regular run/walk/ride will happen at 9.30am before the BBQ
For more info and to let John know you'll be there: john.thompson@hypoactive.org
Another special note!
For those coffee addicts/connoisseurs/obsessives like Valma, the coffee we will be serving will be instant, however Valma assures us there are good coffee shops just around the corner. We are in Melbourne and Brunswick, after all!
