Dunsborough Dirt Dash

The main event is a 12-ish* kilometre offroad run with the local kangaroos - along classic switchback single tracks and banked turns, over obstacles, up, down and all around the near-legendary bike trails at the Dunsborough & Districts Country Club. While the course may (or may not) be a little easier than last year, it's more fun and better for spectators (bring your own). But whatever the case, don't doubt that it has its dark side, including that lung-busting hike up Firey's Descent. There are no road crossings or paved sections - just go to whoa dirt, mud, rocks and trail trickery.

New events this year include:
  • 5km Individual; and
  • 12km 2 person relay (5km/7km approximately)
All events take place on the same course, with all runners doing the 5km loop first. The changeover for the relay teams (also the start of the 7km loop) is at the start/finish area.

For those with a low threshold of boredom, we're on your side. The overlap between the 5km loop and the 7km loop is about the length of a cricket pitch (more or less), and there is no backtracking on either course - so, it's new scenery and new bear traps pretty much all the way.

*We don't actually know exactly how long the course is, and we like it that way - as dedicated trail runners, accurate measurement is not high on our list of essential ingredients. No doubt someone with a GPS will tell us what it was, but until then, we'll just call it a dozen and get on with the serious business of enjoying a good course.
